The departure of three great men

35_08-10-2013_5392

First, the man who became the face of Star Trek’s Spock for decades, Leonard Nimoy. Then, Sir Terry Pratchett who created a whole fantasy Discworld for fans of all ages. And last, the founding father of a tiny nation that bloomed impossibly in just 50 years, Lee Kuan Yew, who passed away today.

These past 30 days have not been good to us. We lost three brilliant men who each made history in their different areas of influence. And two of such influence featured greatly in my own life.

I came into contact with Sir Terry Pratchett’s books at a low point of my life. His sharp wit and unique brand of humor pulled me out of the darkness I let myself fell into then, and continued to cheer me up immensely since. So much so that I indulged in a bit of retail therapy and bought as much of the Discworld series that I can find, and sank my mind into the whimsical fantasy world that Sir Terry Pratchett constructed. In a sense, he saved my sanity for a while there. May his writing live on forever in his place, and bring cheer to generations more.

Mr Lee Kuan Yew is the first Prime Minister of Singapore, and together with his ministers then, were responsible for transforming what was just a small island colony into a 1st world country. And that miracle of a nation, Singapore, is my home. It is Mr Lee’s vision and more than 50 years of his life that made us into the safe and secure country that is beautiful and prosperous today. And today, we lost this giant of a man.

It is a small consolation that all three of them have lived full long lives, and they have more than earned their rest. May they be in a better place, reunited with the loved ones who have gone on ahead of them. Rest in peace.

Luo TianYi (洛天依) sings Fujoshi’s Theory of Love

Thanks to viewing the Dragon Nest China server’s news about DWC Championship 2013, I learned about one of the Chinese vocaloid Luo TianYi (洛天依). At first I wasn’t very interested, but lately I went searching for her songs on a whim.

And while this is not the first song I found that I really liked, it definitely is one of the most memorable. Afterall, I AM a fujoshi. 😛

PS. The person who uploaded and translated the video/song named the song Rotten Girl’s Theory of Love, but I went with the term Fujoshi’s Theory of Love.

PPS. Warning, if you are not a fan of Boys’ Love or Yaoi, this song will likely make no sense at all to you. And google those terms at your own’s risk/

Hummingbird nest

No, this doesn’t have to do with Dragon Nest game. A pair of actual hummingbirds is building their nest on a dangling plant in front of my house.

This photo is from days ago, we discovered the nest.

This is from this morning, when I was leaving house for work. One of the birds is heading for their WIP nest.

And the bird went inside to make the nest nice and comfy. Enlarge the image and you can see its cute yellow self at the centre.

Nanoblock Charmander!

Boyfriend’s Charmander! It has a beautiful but unstable tail to balance its adorably oversized head.

What are you doing, Char?

Nanoblock Pikachu!

Eevee’s new friend, Pikachu. Looks like a puppy from the front though…

New toy, Nanoblock!

Isn’t Eevee cute?

It is looking really good, although I’m using the Android app and there are some minor bugs, but the new features! The clean layout! I’m in love!

Can’t wait to check out the Doit.im website version and desktop client when I get home.

I have not forgotten this blog!

But things have been quite busy for me, and I was being sick or not feeling well a lot, so didn’t really have time to make posts.

I know I have yet to update the DN collection title guides with the newest collection title that is for PVP, but with the new UI for the Title Collection Book, it’s so much easier to check the title requirements ingame. That’s why I have decided that I will wait until there are a few more new title collections before updating.

Instead, I’ll try to post more. Like other guides, game reviews… stuff. Keyword of the day: try.

Excerpts from a book called Disorder in the American Courts

Sel says: I saw this on Facebook and had a hard time trying to not laugh out loudly in office. Posting this to share to anyone who visits, and most importantly for boyfriend whose business trip brought him into the range of the Great Firewall of China.

These are from a book called Disorder in the American Courts and are things people actually said in court, word for word, taken down and published by court reporters that had the torment of staying calm while the exchanges were taking place.

ATTORNEY: What was the first thing your husband said to you that morning?
WITNESS: He said, ‘Where am I, Cathy?’
ATTORNEY: And why did that upset you?
WITNESS: My name is Susan!

Happy New Year, onwards to 2013!

With the Mayan Calendar’s thingy going on, there must be some who thought we won’t be making it to 2013. But we did, and while the local weather was being spoilsport for good half of the day, 2013 arrived safely with a blast (the fireworks were very loud).

May the next 365 (or is is 366?) days be mostly good happy ones for everyone! And a big thank you for dropping by during 2012, it’s been great!

Busy peasy beesy, and happy holidays!

I think the lack of updates is quite noticeable. Unlike what I previously said, it wasn’t because of NaNoWriMo. There was a change in my work situation and I became like busier starting from mid-November, and then after that I took part in the CBT of a new online game (新仙剑 Online) and a major project sucked all my time away. Sometimes I barely even remember to watch K. My NaNo… let’s not talk about that. ._.

Good news, I have more stability in my life now. Bad news, whenever there’s a big project at my work, I don’t have much time for myself, much less blogging. Well, not that I blog often anyway…

I’m looking forward to the holidays because of the amount of days I don’t have to work (hurray!), so a very happy holidays (merry christmas, happy yuletide, etc) to everyone!

PS. I’m gonna go dig out the snowing plugin and activate it for 2 weeks or so. Sorry if it causes the pages to lag. >.<

K anime, 5th Episode Impression

I’m typing this as I rewatch this episode during the marathon now.
